From the astronomical feat to the fashion phenomenon, there is only one step. Fifty years after the first moon landing, the new trend of the year is to display the NASA logo on his clothes.

You probably noticed this year, the logo of the US space agency appears and is available on all clothing. From T-shirts to Bermuda shorts to shoes, NASA's acronym stands for unprecedented stylistic success. Europe 1 decrypts this phenomenon that marks fashion 2019.

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) can thank Neil Armstrong. If the astronaut allowed him to win the Moon in July 1969, 50 years later, the anniversary of his feat may allow the agency to conquer the world of fashion.

An accessible American dream

Everything started a few years ago, in the United States, with the military clothing manufacturer Alpha Industries. It was at this time that Micha, a fan of the brand, bought his first NASA jacket.

"It's thanks to the American stars and the stars of the song, who started to wear a lot in their video clips and on their concert tours, and all the young people started to wear these famous NASA bombers, with the real logos, "he recalls. "In fact, we realized that it's the Alpha Industries brand, which is the real brand that makes the clothes for NASA, that decided to democratize them, and I admit that it's still very style."

Then the logo of the American space agency appeared in the major ready-to-wear chains. The blue circle representing a starry sky surmounted by a red aerodynamic shape quickly appeared on the T-shirt, before gradually gaining the Bermuda shorts, the jackets and the shoes. An American dream that remains very accessible: these clothes are marketed between eight and twenty dollars across the Atlantic, in France, the T-shirt is sold ten euros.

Regulated use

To make the NASA logo appear on a garment, the brand simply has to send an email to the administration responsible for the US space program, Le Figaro explains. If the approach is simple, it is however regulated. "We will never collaborate with a brand of alcohol, cigarettes or any company that does not agree with our values," says Bert Ulrich of the communications department of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Similarly, the logo of the mark should not appear close to the famous badge.

This year, with the fiftieth anniversary of the first lunar landing, all brands are starting the trend: H & M, Vans, Celio, Jules, partnerships are accumulating. The latest in France is the Rica Lewis brand. "We have t-shirts, sweatshirts, joggings, bermudas, with an urban product and at the same time this beautiful logo which is the logo of NASA", explains David Viallaron, the general manager of the Marseilles brand who hopes to sell 50,000 pieces by the end of the year.
