Hot summer Event space in a commercial facility becomes a “self-study room” on August 10 at 0:02

When the heat wave continues, fewer people go out and fewer people visit department stores. In commercial facilities, there are some places that want to attract people by opening the space inside the store as a “self-study room” for children.

A large commercial facility near a residential area in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture is open for free as a “self-study room” with a desk and chair in the event space according to the summer holidays.

Here, children can study summer vacations, and families can take a break between shopping and eating.

This commercial facility is expected to have the effect of allowing families to shop and visit restaurants while children are studying.

A mother in her 20s said, “It's hot outside so it's helpful to take a rest in a cool store when you think about your children. It makes shopping easier.”

Kenichi Yokoyama, Sales Manager of AEON MALL Chiba New Town, said, “I want to spend a comfortable time in this space and then go to the store to eat and shop.”

Service is over 33 degrees Celsius

On the other hand, a major department store in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo offers a limited service on the afternoon when the predicted maximum temperature exceeds 33 degrees Celsius.

For example, we offer approximately 80 types of services, such as discounting fruit juice by 50 yen, and providing Italian ice confectionery and gelato in a 1.5-fold amount.

“I think it would be an opportunity for someone who stopped by the sun to avoid the heat and shop.”

According to the Japan Department Stores Association, in August, the number of people going out of the country increases in the heat every year, so sales tend to decline.
