June consumer spending increased by 2.7% Good travel before summer vacation Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Household survey August 6 11:30

However, the amount of money spent by households in June increased by 2.7% compared to the same month last year due to an increase in payments for travel and other expenses before the summer vacation.

According to a household survey released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the amount used for consumption by households except for living alone in June was 276,882 yen per household.

Expenditure, excluding the impact of price fluctuations, increased 2.7% over the same month last year, increasing continuously for 7 months.

This is because the amount of money spent on pack trips and airline ticket purchases before the summer vacation has increased, and due to lower mobile phone charges, new smartphone contracts have increased mainly for elderly people, resulting in increased communication charges.

Expenses also increased due to strong sales of TVs and PCs.

On the other hand, the income of salaried workers increased by 3.5% from the same month last year to 880,805 yen per household due to increased spouse income and summer bonuses.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications stated that “consumption was strong overall on the back of an increase in income” and that the keynote of consumption was “picking up”.

In addition, the last-minute demand before raising the consumption tax rate to 10% in October has not been seen so far, but I would like to pay attention to future consumption trends.
