The sustainable supermarket chain Marqt has asked ING to investigate 'strategic options', NRC reports Wednesday. According to the newspaper, that would mean looking for a buyer.
In a response to NRC , the company said it was working on a new strategy to improve its brand and philosophy.
The company might be in financial difficulties. In 2017 Marqt made a loss of 1.3 million euros. The results for 2018 are not yet known, but insiders say to NRC that the financial situation has not improved.
The company seems to have been in trouble for some time. At the end of June, RTL Z reported that the entire supervisory board had resigned from the company. The reason for this would have been restructuring and strategy change. CEO Joost Leeflang also stepped up in June.
Marqt was founded in 2008 and now has eighteen stores. The company has not made any profit since its establishment.
