The ministry said in a statement following a meeting with major suppliers and traders of Abu Dhabi yesterday that the current season is witnessing a decline in prices of sacrifice as a result of increased production in most farms and barns in different regions of the country, noting that the domestic production of livestock and animals provides more than 50% Local market needs.

And advised consumers not to buy sacrifices through social networking sites, and verify the validity of the sacrifice and compliance with the requirements of legitimacy, considering the trade sacrifice through social networking sites is illegal.

In a statement, Director of Competition and Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Hashim Al-Naimi, said that the country's top suppliers and traders have promised that the price of sacrifice for sheep and livestock during Eid al-Adha 2019 will not exceed 1500 dirham.

Al-Nuaimi said in a press statement in Abu Dhabi yesterday, following a meeting with suppliers and dealers of sacrifice, that the largest suppliers and traders in the state pledged at the meeting to offer sacrifices of sheep and livestock at prices ranging between 500 and 1500 dirhams, according to the type of sacrifice.

He pointed out that the current season is witnessing a decline in prices of sacrifice, as a result of the increase in production in most farms and barns in different regions of the country, with stable prices of feed and government subsidies to livestock breeders, as well as import from various sources, stressing that the ministry prepared early for the Eid al-Adha season, To achieve greater stability in the domestic market, both for the prices of sacrifices or for the prices of various food and consumer goods.

Local production

Al-Naimi stressed that the local production of livestock and animals provides more than 50% of the needs of the local market, pointing out that the owners of animal farms began to prepare for the sacrifice season, through the introduction of some of the production of these farms in more quantities than the past years.

Al-Naimi noted that the local sacrifices are witnessing a high demand for quality of meat compared to other imported species, stressing that the ministry will continue to hold meetings with local livestock breeders, traders and importers to emphasize the provision of sacrifices in large quantities and not raise prices. He also stressed the importance of purchasing from licensed dealers and official markets, obtaining a dated official invoice to guarantee the rights of consumers, the possibility of replacing sacrificial animals in the event of defects or if they do not comply with legal requirements.
