What you see now is the Baraka nuclear power plant in the UAE. It is the first nuclear power plant we exported. As we have built our own technology, we expected that we would also be in charge of the power plant maintenance business. First of all, let's take a look at the background.

First, it is reporter Park Chan-geun.

Four Korean-type nuclear power plants are under construction in the Baraka region, 270 kilometers west of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Unit 1 was completed last year, and the rest of the construction is now 93%.

When completed, it accounts for one-quarter of the electricity demand throughout the UAE.

As it is a nuclear power plant built with Korean technology, it was highly expected that Korea would win all maintenance and maintenance projects.

In fact, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power was negotiating a contract for exclusive maintenance for 15 years with the nuclear power plant operator 'I & E Energy'.

However, in February 2017, negotiations failed and other countries such as Britain and the United States participated in the bidding. In the end, KHNP and Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction were only able to obtain five-year maintenance projects.

The order and amount of the order will be reduced as well.

Sung Yoon-mo, the minister of industry and industry, stressed that the result of the order is irrelevant to the current government's policy of reducing nuclear power.

[Seong Yun-mo / Minister of Industry: I think that the decision-making process of 'I and I' for the selection of maintenance partners is irrelevant to Korea's nuclear plant policy.

The government and KHNP explained that the UAE has changed its bidding and contracting arrangements in order to put operational responsibility on its operators according to the law.
