US President Donald Trump has threatened further steps in the trade dispute with the EU, after the US motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson had to once again recorded a profit decline. In the first quarter, the surplus fell by more than a quarter compared to the previous year to $ 127.9 million, as Harley-Davidson announced. Revenues fell 12 percent to $ 1.2 billion.

Trump vented his annoyance on Twitter that the traditional company in the EU was suffering from increased tariffs imposed in the course of the commercial dispute. "So unfair to the US," Trump wrote. "We will retaliate."

"Harley Davidson has struggled with tariffs with the EU, currently paying 31%. 66% in June of 2021. "@MariaBartiromo So unfair to US We want Reciprocate!

However, the tariff dispute can not explain Harley's bad numbers. Because the Harley sales sank in the US even more than abroad. In the home country, the manufacturer suffers from an aging clientele.

The relationship between the US President and Harley-Davidson is actually tense. Trump had repeatedly sharply criticized the cult company and even supported calls for boycotts by his followers last year. Trump was upset because Harley-Davidson had announced that it would relocate part of its production abroad because of the punitive tariffs. In his new tweet, he now cited a report according to which the company was forced by the tariffs on the relocations.
