The association of statutory health insurance funds has clearly criticized the plans of the health ministry run by Jens Spahn for a change in their organization. "The contributors, ie the insured and employers, should be banned from the main decision-making body of health and long-term care insurance," it said in a statement after a special meeting.

The ministry plans were "without measure and without reason, wrong and dangerous". There is talk of a "general attack on self-government and social partnership".

Involvement of the patients ensure closeness to life

Among other things, the ministry of the CDU politician plans that there should no longer be honorary representatives of insured and employers in the statutory health insurance board, but full-time board members of health insurance companies. This should serve a professionalization and a closer connection to the operational business of the cash registers.

The Board of Directors, on the other hand, stated that the social partnership organization of voluntary self-government ensures that life-oriented and practice-oriented decisions are made. The committee has in mind the interests of the insured and patients as well as the contributors. The goal is a permanently efficient and affordable health care system, far from partisan strife and calculation.
