Op = Op Voordeelshop budget chain applies for bankruptcy at the Northern Netherlands court. The group has 130 own stores and it employs 1,164 people who share 318 full-time jobs.

The stores in the chain, which also has a webshop, remain open until further notice. The ten franchise stores are not covered by the bankruptcy.

The webshop stays in the air, but it is no longer possible to order. The orders that have already been ordered via the webshop will still be delivered today or tomorrow.

The retail chain is known, among other things, as a discount store in premium brands and specializes in personal care and household products.

A spokesperson explains to NU.nl that the company has actually grown too fast in the last two years. The turnover of the company grew, but not enough to earn back the rising costs.

Lack of liquidity

Due to the lack of liquidity that arose as a result, it was also more difficult for the chain to buy large parties. "You can't always buy good and beautiful parties. You have to have the resources for that."

In their own words, the shareholders have made extra money available in the last two years, but this was insufficient to "guide the company through this period".

Ambition for growth of three hundred stores

The owners went looking for investors, but this also offered no relief. "Investors were interested for various reasons, but they did not continue." At the peak, Op = Op Voordeelshop had 150 stores, but since then a handful of non-functioning locations have closed.

Op = Op Voordeelshop was founded in 1997 in Klazienaveen in Drenthe and the concern expanded from the north. The group wanted to grow to three hundred stores.
