Snow removal until the end – watch as Vildmarksvägen opens

The snow removal continued until the last along Vildmarksvägen and it was close to this year's traditional opening for the summer had to be postponed. "No two years are alike. It's even all the time and just liking the location," says snow clearer Bertil Fjellström.

Bertil Fjellström has cleared snow from Vildmarksvägen since 2008. Prior to this year's opening, greater efforts than usual were required to remove all the snow so that the road could be opened as usual on the national day.

Last week, a lot of snow fell over Vildmarksvägen. Bertil Fjellström and his colleagues were called out.

"At the beginning of last week, it was abrupt on Monday. Then we were up with snow blowers and plow trucks," says Bertil Fjellström.

The plow trucks have been in shuttle traffic ever since.

Rained a lot this winter

Even earlier this winter, it has been a challenge to clear the road of snow.

"It has rained a lot this winter and created layers of ice in the snow that have become very hard. It has been a challenge just to get through it, says Bertil Fjellström.
