Highlights: Juventus loses 10 points to AC Milan in Serie A. The Italian champions are currently second in the table. The original penalty was imposed in January. The decision to drop the points is a result of a review of the club's accounting procedures, the Italian Football Federation said. The club can still qualify for the Champions League if they beat AC Milan on Sunday, May 28. The match is at the San Siro in Turin, with the winner going through to the next round of the competition in Milan.

Juventus Turin received a new penalty of 10 points on Monday, after a downward revision of the initial penalty of 15 points for accounting fraud, which complicates its chances of playing the...

This new penalty, pronounced Monday by the Court of Appeal of the Italian Football Federation, drops Juventus from 2nd to 7th place in the Serie A standings, five points from the last qualifying place for the Champions League occupied by AC Milan (4th).

The Bianconeri can, however, return to two points behind the Rossoneri if they succeed at Empoli on Monday night, and this before facing the Milanese next Sunday, which keeps their chances alive.

These ten penalty points are to be counted "in the current season", according to the judgment communicated by the Italian Football Federation.

The court was a little more lenient than the request of the federal prosecutor, who had requested Monday morning 11 withdrawal points during the hearing to reconsider this penalty.

The same federal appeals court had imposed in January, a withdrawal of 15 points to Juve because of capital gains deemed artificial during certain sales of players. But it was called to reassess its sanction in April by the Guarantee College of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), seized by the Turin club.

This college, the highest level of sports justice in Italy, had confirmed a "voluntary and repeated alteration of accounting entries" on the part of Juve. But he suspended the sanction by asking for clarification of the individual responsibilities of some Turin leaders, including former vice-president Pavel Nedved.

The latter was acquitted at this new hearing.

The Bianconeri can seize again the College of Guarantee, which could extend this extra-sporting soap opera beyond the season, which ends on June 4.
