Sources in the family of ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir said that the latter is receiving medical care at the Medical Weapon Hospital in Khartoum until now, and he has been receiving treatment for a long time in the aforementioned prison.

The statement by the sources in al-Bashir's family followed reports that inmates at Kober prison had fled earlier this week as a result of clashes between the army and the RSF.

Omar al-Bashir and senior leaders of the dissolved National Congress Party (ruling party Sabak) were among those detained in Kober prison.

Al Jazeera's correspondent in Sudan said that leaders of the ousted regime were released from Kober prison, including Ali Osman Taha, Ahmed Haroun and Awad al-Jar.

Haroun said – in an audio statement broadcast by a Sudanese television channel today – that he left prison with other former officials, and that they will provide protection for themselves, noting that he remained in prison "under the exchange of battle fire for nine days," and they were completely cut off from water and electricity supplies.

Ahmed Haroun, who is wanted by the ICC, added that he and other former officials are ready to stand trial when he plays his role.
