More than 300 people gathered Tuesday evening in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), where President Emmanuel Macron was to attend a concert at the House of Education of the Legion of Honor, he said.

The rally took place in a crowded town hall square near the Basilica of Saint-Denis.

In a festive atmosphere and to the sound of many improvised orchestras, the demonstrators chanted "Macron resign" or "Macron is waging war on us, his police too but we too remain determined (determined, editor's note)!"

A few meters from the demonstration, the street leading to the concert site has been cordoned off.

The demonstrators were kept at a safe distance by barriers and a large police force.

"I am here so that Macron cannot walk around quietly in any place in France," Marie, a history and geography teacher at a college in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis), told AFP.
