An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 was recorded in the south of Kamchatka

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean near the southern end of Kamchatka, the regional branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.


Tremors were registered at 09:03 Moscow time, the earthquake center lay 340 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

“I was looking at something on my phone when I realized it was shaking.

I looked at the chandelier - it was swinging.

Not scary, but unpleasant, ”said Alexander Abdurakhmanov, a resident of the city, to RIA Novosti.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously instructed the government to ensure the development and implementation of a set of measures aimed at studying hazardous natural phenomena, as well as conducting permanent seismic monitoring in seismically hazardous areas.
