Lebanese Labor and Transport Minister Ali Hamia said two planes carrying humanitarian aid from Italy to earthquake-hit Syria would land at Beirut airport.

“The cargo from these two aircraft should immediately go from Beirut to Damascus by land through the El Masnaa border checkpoint,” the minister told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths expressed the opinion that the death toll from earthquakes in Turkey and Syria would exceed 40 thousand people.
