The World Cup gold celebrations in Argentina have given Lionel Messi extra time off before he has to return to everyday life at Paris Saint-Germain. The soccer star will not return to Paris until after the New Year. - The WC was big for Leo with the victory. He had to go to Argentina for celebrations and we therefore decided that he will be gone until January 1st. He will come to us on the second or third of January and will thus have 13-14 days to recover, says PSG coach Christophe Galtier.
Messi is likely to miss two league matches and one match in the French Cup and is expected to play only on January 11 against Angers.
PSG's other two stars, Kylian Mbappé in the French final-losing team and Brazilian Neymar, are available for Wednesday's league restart against Strasbourg.
Mbappé started training with the club team already three days after the World Cup final last Sunday.
- When we spoke to him, Kylian said that he wanted to return quite immediately, says Galtier.
