France believes that maintaining a dialogue with the Russian leadership can be difficult, but necessary, said French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna.

“They (dialogues) can sometimes be difficult, they don’t always produce results ... But we are absolutely convinced of the need to maintain channels for communication with those who make decisions in Russia, including President Putin,” she said, speaking at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and international studies, her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

French President Emmanuel Macron's conversations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin are "fully coordinated with friends" in Paris, the minister said.
