Corona in the USA: Immunologist Fauci: Covid vaccinations like flu in the future

9/6/2022, 6:53:36 PM

US Presidential Advisor Anthony Fauci expects Covid-19 vaccinations to be updated annually in the future - as with the flu vaccine, adapted to the then current version. Two omicron vaccines have already been approved in the United States.

The well-known US immunologist Anthony Fauci expects future corona vaccines to be as common as flu vaccines.

"It is becoming increasingly clear that in the absence of a dramatically different variant, we are likely moving down a path with a vaccination frequency similar to that of the annual flu vaccine as we look at the Covid-19 pandemic," Fauci said Tuesday.

There would likely be annually updated Covid-19 vaccinations tailored to currently circulating variants.

US authorities had approved two corona vaccines adapted to the omicron variant in the past few days.

The two preparations are so-called bivalent mRNA vaccines from the companies Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna.

They are adapted both to the original virus type and to the omicron sublines BA.4 and BA.5.

This distinguishes them from the Omicron vaccines, which are to be injected in Germany shortly.

These are adapted to subtype BA.1.

Fauci, who is leaving his position as presidential adviser at the end of the year, urged the US public to inject the drug.

It is central to optimal protection against Covid-19.
