The silver medalist left everything - looking for somewhere to live

When Russia invaded Ukraine, Andrei Protsenko and his family were forced to flee the country by boat. After the high jumper just secured a silver medal in the World Cup, he told about the nightmare. - Everything that the family has earned together disappeared, he says.


34-year-old Andrei Protsenko hit his best place in an outdoor World Cup when he finished 2.33 and came second in tonight's high jump final in Eugene, USA.

In a few weeks, it's time for the European Championships in Munich.

But before that, he has other things to think about.

- I have had many competitions to prepare for, but at the same time I am looking for housing for my family, he says with a Ukrainian flag over his shoulders, Protsenko says to SVT Sport.

How has this time been?

- I went by boat, left everything and we have actually lost almost everything.

Everything that the family has earned together basically disappeared.

But I think that's what motivates me to perform even better.
