The UK may become a transit country for natural gas to Europe against the backdrop of attempts by European countries to reduce dependence on Russian energy imports.

This is reported by The Daily Telegraph.

National Grid expects UK gas exports to Europe to rise over the next six months until September, when Europe's storage facilities start filling up ahead of next winter.

As specified, the gas that comes to the UK from Norway via a gas pipeline through the North Sea, as well as on tankers in the form of LNG from around the world, can then be transported to Europe through pipelines to Belgium and the Netherlands.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that energy prices could break historical records in the event of an embargo on Russian supplies.

He also expressed the opinion that Europe has nothing to replace Russian gas, either now or in the next five years.
