The German Foreign Ministry announced that it had summoned the Russian ambassador to Berlin and informed him that two employees of the Russian embassy were no longer wanted on German soil.
In diplomatic practice, this declaration means the expulsion of the persons concerned by this decision.
German Foreign Minister Annalina Birbock said today, Wednesday, that Russian Ambassador Sergei Nechaev was informed of this decision during a conversation at the Foreign Ministry.
This action came against the background of the case of the murder of a Georgian citizen of Chechen origin in Berlin in 2019, and Germany believes that Russian intelligence is behind his assassination.
The German Foreign Minister said that this murder was carried out on the order of the Russian Federal Security Service, according to the court's decision, and constitutes a serious violation of German law and sovereignty.
For her part, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that Berlin's latest decision will not remain without an appropriate response from Moscow.
