One of Sweden's players wore his helmet when the Finnish national anthem was played after the JVM quarter-finals. It is not allowed, according to the rules. The Swedish Ice Hockey Association is now receiving a serious warning from the International Ice Hockey Association, writes the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti. - These cases are always taken up, says IIHF's vice chairman Kalervo Kummola, and announces that the warning probably also means a fine.

The disappointment was great after the Swedish exit from the junior WC, where Sweden lost a dramatic quarterfinal against Russia.

Now it seems that the Swedish team will be punished, due to what happened after the final signal.

The Finnish newspaper Iltalehti writes that the Swedish Ice Hockey Association receives a "serious warning", after a Swedish player wore a helmet during the national anthem, which is not allowed.

"Not so serious"

Kalervo Kummola, who is vice chairman of the IIHF, tells the newspaper what it means.

- A serious warning means that there will be a fine or something else next time, he says to Iltalehti, and continues:

- But I think it will only be a fine.

It does not usually get so serious the first time.

Sorry

The Finnish team's general manager Kimmo Oikarainen confirms that the event has been discussed by the tournament's organizers.

- It was mentioned at the directorate's meeting, he says to the newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, where he also tells that the Finnish team has received an apology from the Swedish side:

- The Swedish team management has personally apologized to me, and I accepted the apology.

That is the most important thing, and for us it is now out of the question.

However, it is a disciplinary committee that decides exactly what the punishment will be, and it can take quite a long time.
