Corona vaccine: the open flank in children's immune systems

The Covid vaccines will soon also be tested on children and, if everything goes as planned, will be approved for them from spring. Some professionals are watching the new tests with concern. Because with the youngest there is a puzzling and threatening phenomenon with this virus.


27 are actually not much, not when you look at the big picture of the pandemic in Germany. Around 5000 people are currently hospitalized with Covid-19 every week, a few dozen of them are children - and only five percent of them, that is the 27, have so far developed a syndrome called PIMS. The 27 are nevertheless important: There are new data on the phenomenon that generally raise the question of the safety of the current vaccines. In the coming weeks, studies will begin to test the vaccine for the first time on children under the age of twelve. Pediatricians are concerned about this. Because there are indications that the vaccines that trigger a particularly strong immune response could be risky for them. Why is that?
