Police more effective in corona times

11/5/2020, 8:14:41 PM

Canceled events and fewer demonstrations during the corona pandemic have meant that the Stockholm Police Region has been able to re-prioritize its resources. More police officers have been able to investigate crimes and this has meant that six percent more criminal cases have been handed over to prosecutors in 2020 compared with the year before.

It is primarily violations of the knife law and minor thefts that have made it possible to submit more criminal cases to prosecutors.

"Among other things, we have had people who otherwise work with border controls at Arlanda investigate what we consider to be less serious crimes," says Michael Fetz, who is commander in a special event at Corona.

In connection with the corona outbreak, a staff of about ten people was formed who, in parallel with their usual work, work with how the corona pandemic is to be handled by the police.

There is also a national staff.
