Pompeo calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to end violence

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at meetings with Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia Jeyhun Bayramov and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan called on the parties to end the violence. This was reported by the press service of the State Department.


As noted, Pompeo "stressed the need to end violence and protect civilians."

"The Secretary of State also stressed the importance of the two sides starting substantive negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in order to resolve the conflict based on the principles of the Helsinki Final Act on the non-use of the threat of violence, threat to territorial integrity and equal rights of peoples to self-determination," the statement said. ...

Earlier, American leader Donald Trump said that good progress had been made in the negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh.

On Friday, October 23, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan are in Washington, where they meet with Pompeo.
