On August 19, 1960, the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik-5 was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome. Its passengers, Belka and Strelka, became the first dogs to orbit the Earth and return safely back. Their flight was a real scientific breakthrough, as it made it possible to study the influence of various factors of being in space on biological objects. After the return of Belka and Strelka, the administration of the USSR published a statement entitled “Great contribution to the treasury of world science and culture”, in which it congratulated the team working on the launch.
