World year's best in discus deleted - Ståhl still world number one

This week, Colombian Mauricio Ortega threw 70.29 meters in discus - longer than anyone else has achieved this year. Thus, the Swede Daniel Ståhl thought he had lost his world year record of 70.25, but now Ortega's giant throw in the Portuguese Vila Nova de Cerveira has been annulled by the International Athletics Federation, writes Aftonbladet.

On the association's website, Ortega's record throw is marked as "unconfirmed", which is not clear.

- This was news to me, but it feels sad if they are to have the results deleted. Even though I do not know what has happened, says Daniel Ståhl to Aftonbladet.

Ortega's throw was three meters longer than his previous record.

It is remarkable that the Ecuadorian Juan Caicedos also set a new personal record (69.60) in the same competition as Ortega - and that with the next seven meters. Caicedo's results are also unconfirmed on the International Athletics Federation's website.
