US congressmen have submitted a bill banning the country's president from withdrawing from international agreements without congressional consent.

The bill, entitled “Act to Prevent Security Impairment without Congress Approval” (PAUSE), was introduced by Edward Markey and Jimmy Panetta.

“The withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty is the final chapter in the methodological dismantling of the arms control architecture by the president,” Markey wrote on Twitter.

According to him, the law gives Congress the right to consider decisions to terminate any treaty.

On May 21, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty.

The decision takes effect after six months.
