German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that if the German Democratic Republic (GDR) continued its existence and the Berlin Wall was not destroyed, it would visit the United States after retirement.

She said this in an interview with Spiegel.

“I could fulfill my dream: in the GDR, women aged 60 retired, I would have received my passport five years ago and would go to America,” she said.

The German Chancellor added that her dream was to see the Rockies, drive a car and listen to Bruce Springsteen's songs.

She also said that in the GDR, pensioners had freedom of movement.

Earlier it was reported that Merkel will meet in Berlin with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
