The US decision to withdraw from northeastern Syria is not popular with the Kurds in the area. As an American military convoy drove through the city of Qamishli, parts of the civilian population showed their displeasure and threw potatoes at the US forces.

Many Kurds live in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, and as the US troops passed through the city, many took the opportunity to show their dissatisfaction with Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the troops from the area. Many believe that it was US action that opened up the Turkish offensive against the Kurds in the area.

It was at the end of last week that the United States and Turkey announced a five-day ceasefire in northeastern Syria. However, the ceasefire between Turkey and the Kurdish forces has been fragile, with several incidents.
