An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred in the Kuril Islands. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.


“An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 was recorded on Sunday at 20:58 (12:58 Moscow time),” said Yelena Semenova, head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station.

According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 109 km southeast of Iturup Island.

The hearth lay at a depth of 67 km.

Residents of Kurilsk and the village of Raidovo felt tremors with a power of 2-3 points.

Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred in China.
