The mass demonstrations in Hong Kong stop the WTA tournament in tennis. The tournament that was to be played October 5-13 will now be moved to a different date, the organizer announces in a statement.

The ladies tournament would have been played between October 5 and 13. The WTA tennis organization is now trying to find another date for the tournament.

"After an intensive discussion with everyone involved, we have come to the conclusion that it will be easier to conduct the tournament at another time," the Hong Kong organizer said in a statement.

The democracy movement's protests and demonstrations, which have sometimes become violent, have been going on in Hong Kong for four months.

Dayana Yastremska won last year's tournament.
