Russia in the UN Security Council called the number of militants and IS supporters in Syria

Currently, about three thousand militants of the Islamic State terrorist organization * and their supporters operate in Syria. This was stated by Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Gennady Kuzmin, speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council.


“Currently, the total number of Ishilovites and their supporters in Syria is about 3 thousand people,” the diplomat quoted TASS as saying.

He noted that also in Syria "there are many other terrorist groups."

Previously, the Pentagon said that the IG, "probably retains from 14 thousand to 18 thousand members in Iraq and Syria."

At the end of August 2017, the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces stated that the number of IS in Syria exceeded 9 thousand terrorists.
