The head of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, said in an interview with Spanish television channel Antena3 that early elections should be held in six to nine months or earlier.

“Elections should be in the shortest possible time ... But first we need to improve the electoral system as soon as possible, so that there is one voter and one vote, we are talking about six or nine months, maybe less, but as soon as possible,” RIA Novosti quotes Guayido .

Responding to a question about whether he is ready to ask other countries for military assistance if the situation develops against the opposition, Guaido said that "Venezuela is a sovereign country, and Venezuelans should resolve the conflict." At the same time, he added that "there is a humanitarian crisis, and children die every day, there must be a quick solution to this crisis and this conflict."

On January 23, during an opposition rally in Caracas, Guaido declared himself acting president of Venezuela.
