There is evidence of someone manipulating a CCTV video file that contains the situation at the time of the Sewol ferry disaster, the Sewol ferry disaster special investigation committee said today (22nd).

As a result of analyzing the files submitted to the court, the Special Assistance Committee requested a special prosecutor's investigation, claiming that the data had been fabricated in several places.

Special Investigation Committee on the Sewol ferry disaster revealed that it had found a number of manipulated traces as a result of analyzing CCTV video files of the Sewol ferry from April 10, 2014 to the 16th, the day of the disaster.

If a specific part of the video file data is copied and pasted to another part, an error occurs in the pasted part and the video cannot be played. These places reached 18,000 locations, and 74% of them claimed to be concentrated on the day before and the day of the accident.

[Park Byung-Woo/Director of the Sewol Ferry Disaster Investigation Bureau: It is impossible to overwrite data like that due to a technical error or some kind of collision, and it is only possible with intentional intention.] The

DVR that stores the Sewol Ferry's CCTV footage was two months after the disaster. It was salvaged on June 22, but the video released after restoring for 50 days was only shown until 8:46 am, three minutes before the disaster, and some suspected manipulation.

The Special Control Committee requested a special prosecutor's investigation to determine what the video was in the part where the tampering trace was found, and to reveal who, why, and what was trying to delete the scene.

In addition, in May 2014, the Maritime and Police Field Command Headquarters wrote an official document titled'Details of handover after the 0509 DVR was picked up', and continued the previous claim that the actual pick-up time of the DVR was before June 22nd.
