An official competition for electric scooters in 2021 - Geeko

Electric vehicles have been taking over the racetrack for some time now. After electric cars and motorcycles, it's time for electric scooters to take their first steps in high-speed competitions.

A group of Formula 1 and Formula E drivers - a competition between single-seat electric car drivers - is preparing to launch a new championship between drivers of ultra-fast, custom-made electric scooters. The competition called Electric Scooter Championship or eSkootr will be launched in 2021.

A mysterious trailer

The video presentation of the competition is surprising. Forget what you were used to at the automobile championships, the electric scooters imagined for the competition seem to come straight out of a science fiction film. With their neon colors and the combinations of the pilots matched with their bikes, one has rather the impression to see a trailer for a video game or a futuristic film. And unfortunately we will have to be content with that, the information concerning the Electric Scooter Championship is indeed scarce.

We do not yet know at the moment the names of the pilots who will take part in the competition, nor how it will be financed and even less the precise date on which it will take place. However, we know that competitors should compete on two futuristic wheels that can reach a top speed of 100 km / h, which represents a significant risk for drivers, especially since they will be particularly exposed in the event of a fall. or collision.

Accessible sport

"The reduced cost of the [vehicle] category removes the high barrier to entry seen in most other motorsport series, and its versatility means that the series can recruit from a truly diverse sample of competitors - including race pilots, cyclists, skaters, snowboarders, motorcyclists and even electronic sports runners, "said the organizers.

They also claim that scooters were imagined and developed by a big name in high technology - without specifying which one - and that they will be presented later this year. The competition will promote clean energy technology and micromobility, say the organizers. The first season of the competition will be organized in "a series of specially designed urban sites in some of the most cosmopolitan and progressive cities in the world," says ESC, without giving further details.
