Today (29th), police and residents clash over the construction equipment and materials at the entrance to the Seongju Seong (THAAD, High Altitude Missile Defense System) base in Gyeongbuk.

According to the police, around 9:00 pm yesterday, about 200 people, including residents and officials from anti-Sad groups, gathered in Soseong-ri, Chojeon-myeon, Seongju-gun, where the Sad base is located, to prevent equipment and materials from being brought in.

The police, which put more than 3,700 careers on the scene, ordered the dissolution of protesters through several warning broadcasts and started disbanding today at 3:15 am.

During this process, residents, etc., shouted "opposite the sadness" and vehemently protested, and about 5 people were reported to be injured.

The Ministry of National Defense began to bring equipment and materials into the car after the police secured the road to the Sad Base at around 4:15 am.

Seong-ju Lee, Chairman of the Seongju Saede Judiciary Struggle, Lee Jong-hee said, "The Ministry of National Defense mentioned the construction for the welfare of the soldiers, but never brought in the equipment of Saad."

The ground transportation was reportedly aimed at improving the working conditions of US-ROK soldiers working in the Holy Land and replacing some aging equipment.

The Ministry of National Defense and the USFK have been working on improving the living environment for soldiers in the Sad Base since August last year.

In the meantime, the Ministry of National Defense explained that construction equipment and materials were transported by helicopter to minimize friction with residents, etc., but some equipment was inevitable by land transportation.
