Billion dollars to help develop new regional cloud service center - Geeko

Microsoft announced Tuesday a $ 1 billion investment in Poland to develop its operations, including creating a new regional cloud services center (remote computing). The American giant claimed to have signed an agreement with the National Cloud Operator, a company supported by the Polish state, to offer "cloud solutions to all industries and businesses in Poland".

This initiative will be rolled out over the next seven years, the multinational said. "Another major global player has chosen Poland to place its investment, [...] the largest in our region of Europe", welcomed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on his Facebook page.

"Another important step"

Microsoft is one of the global giants providing cloud computing services, a market representing hundreds of billions of dollars. "This is another important step on the path of digital development and of the whole Polish economy," said Mateusz Morawiecki.

The National Cloud Operator was founded two years ago by the state-controlled PKO bank and the National Development Fund to accelerate the development of the digital economy. Poland, one of the European Union countries showing strong growth for years, expects its GDP to fall by 3.4% this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
