Apple is preparing to acquire NextVR, the company specializing in virtual reality, reports 9to5Mac this Saturday. This Californian company has become an expert in the production and broadcasting of sporting and entertainment events that can be viewed on Sony virtual reality (VR) headsets for the Playstation, Oculus, Vive for HTC and Microsoft's HoloLens.

But the Cupertino company would not turn to this type of entertainment. She wants to develop the properties of augmented reality on the iPhone and iPad, with her ARKit tool. The American giant is therefore more interested in the technology used by NextVR, which allows content to be streamed using a high-quality stream, specifies the specialized media.

Apple would like to buy patents

The American company has developed around forty techniques to broadcast high quality videos by optimizing the compression of content, says 01Net. The magazine believes that Apple is accelerating the development of its augmented reality (AR) glasses, which may one day replace the iPhone.

According to information from 9To5Mac , the apple brand is therefore ready to put more than a hundred million dollars on the table to acquire the intellectual properties of NextVR products. The employees of the latter company would have been warned a few days ago that part of its production would take place in a few weeks in the Cupertino region, the stronghold of Apple.

This shift to augmented reality was prompted by Tim Cook at an Apple event in Ireland earlier this year. He stressed the importance of AR, considering that this technology is one of the priorities for tech companies for the next 10 years, says Presse-Citron .
