Like the Xbox Series X, the PS5 would have no exclusivity at launch - Geeko

Remember, in early January Microsoft announced that all of its Xbox Series X exclusives would also be compatible with its predecessor, the Xbox One, for a period of at least two years. An announcement that had the effect of a blow to the fans, who were many wondering why Microsoft would deprive themselves of such solid sales arguments for its new console.

According to Bloomberg, Sony customers will be in the same boat with the PlayStation 5. The first exclusives that will land on the machine should also be compatible with the PS4. Titles like Ghost of Tsushima or even the next God of War could therefore theoretically land on the two generations of consoles.

A change in strategy on the part of publishers

In either case, it would seem that console manufacturers do not expect rapid adoption of next-gen platforms. With the cost of developing games increasing, publishers are now betting more on deploying on more platforms. This is what explains today the desire of Sony to also offer its games on PC and Microsoft to extend its GamePass offer on other platforms.

The budgets for some games are well over $ 50 million. An amount hardly amortized at the launch of a new generation platform, given the limited fleet of machines. With a few exceptions, it is indeed quite rare that a launch game passes the milestone of a million, or even two million sales.
