TCL to market the first 5G smartphone for less than € 500 - Geeko

The Chinese group TCL presents at CES in Las Vegas this week a new range of smartphones with very elegant designs, including a consumer 5G model.

The electronics giant, better known to us for its televisions and household appliances, had already expressed its desire in the past to become a major player in the mobile field. Its 3 new smartphones presented at the Las Vegas show are part of its international expansion strategy. They will notably be marketed on American soil.

One of the three models presented is compatible with 5G networks. The 3 models, TCL 10 5G, 10 Pro and 10L should be sold under the 500 dollar mark. A first for a 5G model.

Honorable performances

To remain competitive, the Chinese group has opted for less expensive components than competing flagships, replacing the traditional Snapdragon 865 with a Snapdragon 765. If the performance of the 3 TCL smartphones will be a notch below the competing flagships, they will benefit from nice photo performance with the use of a 48 megapixel sensor.

TCL wants to follow suit with Xiaomi and Huawei, two other Chinese giants who have managed to establish themselves on a long-term basis in Western markets by charging ultra-competitive prices. TCL's strategy should not differ much in this respect, with products targeting a very large audience and positioning themselves as economical alternatives to smartphones from Apple and Samsung.
