"We need you to carry out a completely crazy project: buy the zoo at Pont Scorff (France) to free thousands of wild animals ." This is how the French NGO Rewild announced the "crazy" project that consisted of raising 600,000 euros to acquire this zoo, in the region of Brittany, and thus freeing the 560 wild animals found there and returning them to their original environment.

The proposal, which was launched just six days ago, has already raised 672,584 euros , much more than they needed to buy the zoo, release the animals and turn it into a rehabilitation facility for animals. A project that its own creators described as "crazy" and that has had a crazy response.

23,200 people have contributed what they could to reach the necessary figure. "Damocles' sword is raised! Thanks to you we will keep the keys to the Pont Scorff Zoo!" , the NGO announced that the project had been achieved.

"Our mission is to protect wild animals and today we have a unique opportunity to do so, one that may never arise again: buy a zoo and turn it into an open door to freedom for the hundreds of animals that live in it, as well as for victims of animal trafficking, "said Rewild's note.

To carry out its challenge, the NGO signed a sales agreement with the zoo owner on December 16. From that date they had 5 months to raise the 600,000 euros they needed to acquire the zoo. If they did not succeed, they had to return the zoo to the owner, along with all the animals and thus abandon the project.

But it hasn't been necessary to wait even a week to get it. Now the zoo is yours and your idea is that the 560 animals found there are released in their environment. "We are currently working with an absolute emergency: immediately improve the conditions to keep the animals. Time plays against us because some are in a very worrying state . They are our priority," they say from the NGO.

That is why the NGO has decided to keep the collection open, since "it will take us several months to establish all the economic activity of the zoo (restaurant, shop, events, exhibitions ...)" . To start, they have to pay the 100,000 euros of the salaries of zoo workers who have offered to remain in the project.

In addition, there is the food of the animals, the care, and above all, the most urgent jobs, which go through giving them spaces that meet their most basic needs as soon as possible. "The challenge is very big, but together we can achieve it," they say.

And it is that once they put everything in order the NGO will have to fulfill the promise: to free all the animals that live in said zoo. Rewild is a coalition founded by Sea Sheperd France and six other French NGOs -Sea Shepherd, Center Athénas, Hisa, Le Biome, One Voice, Wildlife Angels, Darwin-, which specialized in the defense, conservation, care, rehabilitation and capture of Wild animals victims of illegal trafficking. And with that premise they have carried out this project.

One of its donors has been the French entrepreneur Marc Simoncini , father of the Meetic contacts website, and who has contributed to the project with 250,000 euros and to which the NGO has thanked his contribution, although "all have contributed by making a small donation or big".
