The London star leads a romantic comedy with music by George Michael

Although he has participated in films such as Terminator: Genesis or Before You , Emilia Clarke (London, 1986) is known worldwide for having given life in Game of Thrones to Daenerys Targaryen , "the mother of dragons." After the end of the series, the British actress faces a new professional stage that opens with Last Christmas , a romantic comedy directed by Paul Feig ( My Best Friend's Wedding , Ghostbusters ) in which Emma Thompson acts as an interpreter, screenwriter and producer .

How would you describe Kate, your character in this film? He is a complex person who has his flaws. If someone like Emma Thompson starts to write a character, you know it's going to be someone real. I have never believed in that typical Hollywood version of the perfect woman. Above all, because it is not real. When I go to the movies, I like to leave the room and feel that I have seen something that reflects life. Years ago, a film like this would have been listed as an independent cinema. But, in this case, it has been a great study who has supported such a project. What do you like most about Kate? That is fun and a bit messy. And, although it may not seem like it, he cares about others. Kate wants to enjoy life. At the beginning of the story, Kate shows herself as a negative and rather sarcastic person, until Tom (Henry Golding) appears in her life. Did you have trouble connecting with those aspects of such a changing personality? Since I am such a positive and pathologically hopeful person, I had to work hard to understand their behavior. Deep down, I think it comes from the fear that Kate has to accept some aspects of her life. In the end, everything turned out to be simpler and I connected better with its sarcastic side than with the negative. In your life, what has helped you get ahead in difficult times? Work. Now that I have some more experience I understand that, in difficult times, it is sometimes good to stop for a moment and breathe. Over time I have learned that you have to let things that affect you follow their natural course. Therefore, automatisms such as waking up in the morning and going to work can help you move forward. But you also have to know how to take the time you need.

Do you like to do comedies? I love it! In fact, despite having dedicated 10 years of my life to Game of Thrones , movies like Last Christmas better reflect the person that I am. So much so that, in the breaks I had during the filming of the series, I always tried to do something more fun. I have spent both my childhood and my youth trying to make people laugh. Besides writing the script, Emma Thompson brings Kate's mother to life here. Was it hard to hold the laugh at his side at some point? I think so! There's a time when Emma sings Kate a babysitter to sleep her. And, since we couldn't stand laughing, she asked me to replace me with a pillow when the camera didn't focus on me. What do you think of the role played by George Michael's songs that are part of the soundtrack? For me, as for many other English compatriots, their songs have been fundamental in my life. I think there is always a song by George Michael that fits every experience. George wrote the best pop songs and, now that he is no longer with us, many people begin to realize the meaning they had of his lyrics. I have always admired him.
