Antonio Manuel Álvarez Vélez (Huelva, 1980), better known as Pitingo , continues to explore the fusion between black music and flamenco . Now he says goodbye to the tour of his latest album, Mestizo and border , with three consecutive nights in Madrid.

Are you still feeling nervous before going on stage? Yes, they are never removed. It is a sense of responsibility, of wanting to be one hundred percent with the public. When the concert ends you see the reward for so much effort. The happy face of the people feeds the artist. Is mestizo and border a return to the origins? I've always had those two parts, flamenco and soul. At the age of 9 I first heard Aretha Franklin and thus I began my journey. Unintentionally, in a natural way, I began to unite those two cultures. At this point in your career, do you feel freer than ever? Yes, I don't like to be told what I have to do. I am at a stage where I want to reinforce my author's part, which sometimes they have not let me take out. With this album I intended to send a clear message against racism and in favor of equality. What do you think of what artists like El Niño de Elche or Rosalía do? Great. We gypsies have boasted of being free for so long that we should let people do what they want. Everyone who takes the word flamenco to another level is welcome. What's so pure about flamenco? I always say: "Purists are the ones who smoke cigars." What has it been like working with Sam Moore in Soul Man? A dream; I admire him since he was a teenager. It's amazing to see him now, with 84 years and such brutal strength and energy.
