David Summers responds to the interview (Madrid, 1964), eternal singer of the formation.
Is it an extra responsibility to play at home? Yes, of course, but also a real pleasure. It is our city, our people, our family and our friends. It's always special and wonderful. How do you find Madrid lately? A bit chaotic, as always, but without losing its charm. The best thing about the city has always been the people who live here. Is it easy to do the repertoire or are there "fights" to play one song or another? I do the repertoire, I think I am not bad. I take it very seriously, but, of course, I have the opinions of my colleagues. We are lucky to have a good handful of songs that are essential and that makes things easier. This year we have added a few of Resurrection , our new album, so that people can listen to them live and get to know them a little more thoroughly.We are in one of our best moments, doing things our way. Even if we wanted to, we don't want to, they won't let us retire
What else can be revealed from the concert? I can only say that it is a concert that we are preparing in a special way. It is the presentation in Madrid of our new album, which we love. We will have special guests, a great production ... We are going to do everything to pass it as a fucking mother, we and the public that will cram the Wizink.What is the secret to renew public and that this is made up of several generations? We do not know, the truth. I think the only possible secret is to work with enthusiasm, without rest and with the desire to always learn something. Bet on the beautiful songs that convey good vibes and make people feel something, enjoy it every day and not be aware of the passage of time. We are very proud and happy to have people of all ages among the public, to see children singing Sufre Mamón as crazy climbed on the shoulders of their parents ... How do you find yourself in this way of working in which the platforms of streaming are replacing the physical disk? We adapt, we have no other. Although the work of the artists remains the same: try to make good songs that reach the public, play them live ... what is constantly changing is the format, the way to spread them.I do the repertoire of the concert. How do you define Resurrection ? I think it's a collection of very beautiful and special songs. It has taken us a long time because we wanted to make an amazing album and we have been very demanding in the selection of songs, I think more than ever. There are songs written from 2014 until now and it has a very interesting range of emotions. I love it, and I really enjoy playing it live. You had time without new material, although you have not stopped playing. How does the compositional inspiration come? The truth is that being on tour is more complicated, but I try not to lose the habit of playing the guitar almost every day and always look for something. Then we save some time to compose and I lock myself in writing. The more time I have, the better, but it is not always possible and I get it from where I can. If they had told you in the 80s that almost in 2020 you would continue to fill pavilions, would you have believed it? Neither we nor anyone else. In these last 35 years we have fulfilled dreams that we did not even have. And we continue. You have affirmed that at 60 they arrive safely. Retirement, then, discarded? The only limit we have is health. As long as we have this energy and this activity and the body allows it, we will continue. This next year we will do 24 concerts in two months in the US, tour in Mexico, South America and Spain, we will see how we ended ...Four emblematic moments of a mythical career
1. Suffer mammon . "This song has given us everything. It was the spark that lit a fire that we have then fed more songs. We can never stop playing it. Fortunately."
2. June 1, 1985 . Concert in Madrid, Astoria room. It was the first time we freaked out with what was happening to us. We went from being a neighborhood group to what we later were and are.
3. The films ( Suffer mamón , 1987. Let your hair down , 1988). "From them, our popularity skyrocketed dramatically. I have beautiful memories of filming with my father [Manuel Summers]. They were intense but fun years."
4. I notice . It was the song with which we returned in 2002, after 10 years of absence. He had a huge success in Spain and America and put us back on our site. I think it's one of our best themes.
5. Now . We are in one of our best moments, doing things our way, producing our content, playing in incredible venues, making spectacular tours in Spain, the US, Mexico, South America ... and, at the same time, preparing a new movie, a TV series ... Even if we wanted to, that we don't want, they won't let us retire.
