Two men died by drowning Saturday on the Gironde coast, two days after the drowning death of a woman in the same area, we learned from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS).
The beaches of Gironde, more than 100 km of sand stretching from Verdon-sur-mer to the Bassin d'Arcachon, are no longer monitored at this time of the year. The weather was particularly mild Saturday in the department, with up to 28 degrees in Lacanau according to Météo-France.
The drowned were 25, 64 and 70 years old
A 64-year-old man was rescued by firefighters on Saturday mid-day between Lacanau and Carcans. In respiratory arrest, he could not be resuscitated on the beach by the SMUR and was declared dead. The scenario was repeated in the middle of the afternoon a little further north, on a beach in the municipality of Graillan-et-l'Hôpital, with a 70-year-old man.
Late Thursday evening, a helicopter of the Air Force, alerted by the Regional Operational Monitoring and Rescue Center (CROSS) Etel, had located in front of the beach of Carcans the body of a 25-year-old swimmer whose disappearance had been reported during the day. His death was found on the beach by the relief. The sea was "rough".
