This Tuesday, October 8, the Royal Academy of Sciences of Sweden announced the names of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2019. The award went to three people, on the one hand the Canadian astrophysicist James Peebles and on the other his companions Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz , of Swiss origin.

Ulf Danielsson , a member of the organization, was in charge of communicating that the winners received this prestigious recognition "for their contribution to the understanding of the evolution of the universe and the place of the Earth in the cosmos."

During his speech he winked at The Big Bang Theory that has not gone unnoticed by fans of the 'sitcom': "Our entire universe was in a hot and dense state. Then, almost 14,000 million years ago, the expansion began" . These words, in English, form the first two verses of the theme that sounds at the head of the successful comedy. The Swedish pronounces them from minute 6:20 of the next video.

It is the first time that a reference to fiction is made in the Nobel , but it has not been the only one this year. In an interview with the Associated Press, Professor Göran K. Hansson , general secretary of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Sweden , said he believed it was appropriate to mention the lyrics of the song.

He thanked the series for their work: " I am very grateful for what you have done for science, for bringing science closer to people ... Bringing science to screens and living rooms around the world is a fantastic achievement . " He also said he hoped that the delivery of the Nobel Prizes in 2019 would like fans of The Big Bang Theory . "And I hope that Sheldon and Amy are not too disappointed today."

The Nobels in the series

The Nobel Prizes were precisely a key part of the end of The Big Bang Theory , issued last May on CBS (in TNT and Neox in Spain). Possible spoilers below!

In the double episode with which the comedy was dismissed, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) learn that they have won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their work on superasymmetry. The two travel with their friends to Sweden to attend the ceremony in which they will collect the award.

The couple's speech at the event was one of the highlights of their conclusion. Sheldon apologized to the gang: "I apologize if I have not been the friend you deserve, but I want you to know, that in my own way, I love you all." Amy encouraged girls interested in science to fight for their dreams: "It's the best job in the world. And if someone tells you that you can't, don't listen."
