Poland has arrested an employee of the tech company Huawei. He is suspected of espionage on behalf of the Chinese government.

The employee in question is responsible for selling products to companies in Poland, according to news channel TVPInfo .

At the same time, a former employee of the Polish security service was arrested. He has since been employed at telecom provider Orange Polska. Both suspects will remain in detention for three months.

"This case is far from over" says Stanislaw Zaryn, spokesperson for the Polish secret service. "We are now going to find out whether or not the Polish state has indeed acted."

More and more countries are concerned about possible espionage by Huawei. The company sells, among other things, telecommand equipment to providers, which, according to critics, can be misused to eavesdrop on behalf of the Chinese government.

Huawei worked on 5G in Poland

Orange Polska worked with Huawei in the past year on the introduction of a new 5G network in Poland.

Huawei denies telecom networks to listen. In addition, no concrete evidence of espionage has yet been presented. Nonetheless, providers in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, among others, have taken measures against the company.
