I reported on the contents of the correspondence yesterday (12th) at the time of KTX accident in Gangneung Line, and it seemed that I wasted time in the wrong part about 30 minutes after detecting an abnormal signal. Another reason for the accident is that it has changed the way the line switching system is operated by emphasizing efficiency more than safety.

28 minutes before the accident at 7:07 am. It is announced that an abnormality occurred in the Gangneung Station control line connecting the Gangneung Station and the car base.

So the controller on the Seoul side worries that there may be a problem with the train service that needs to get out of the vehicle base.

But the real problem is the situation on the railroad from Gangneung Station to Seoul. I reported that there was a problem in the wrong place.

At 7:17 pm, the controller asks if the KTX train can leave Gangneung Station and go to Seoul, and the Gangneung station manager says no problem.

At 7:26 pm, there is no indication that the train can start and the train leaves at 7:30.

The railway to Seoul in front of me was in the wrong position.

At 7:35:44, there is an urgent report of the KTX captain that the car has derailed.

Everyone was hovering elsewhere for 28 minutes after an anomaly was detected.

[Jung Young-suk / Professor, Railway Driving System Engineering, Former Korea National Univ. Of Transportation]: Hut information is gone, and all the effort, attention, and emergency response are wrong with hut information.

Especially, it is regrettable that if two line switching machines installed within 30m were operated in conjunction with each other.

KORAIL has been linked to each other at the time of the close line transition, and when an abnormal signal is detected from one side, both railway lines are shut down.

However, I changed it to operate separately from last year because the reason was for on-time operation.

It seems hard to avoid criticism that the policy change that led to efficiency rather than safety led to this major derailment.
