On December 15, 1938, during a test flight on a new I-180 fighter, Hero of the Soviet Union Valery Chkalov died. Thanks to record-breaking non-stop flights Moscow-Udd Island and Moscow-North Pole-Vancouver, he became the idol of millions of people around the world. The pilot's life ended when he was only 34 years old. During the test, "raw" aircraft engine failed. Chkalov took the car away from residential buildings, but when landing it caught on the wires and crashed. His death gave rise to many myths and rumors, but none of them found confirmation. Today the name of Valery Chkalov has become a legend.
